Eating Right

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that eating right is the best wrinkle treatment in the world, but not all foods on the buffet table are created equal. There are certain foods in the anti wrinkle pyramid that stand alone in the upper echelon. These foods are rich in anti-oxidants, Vitamin A and other essential ingredients that anyone who is serious about keeping their skin healthy over the long term should know about. Just a handful of those foods are blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, plums and even a dark, rich cup of coffee.

Even if you are brand new to the healthy skin game, you have likely heard television doctors rave about anti oxidants and how they are the kings. It seems that every new day brings a new story about a new type of food that is rich in anti oxidants, but for this week, the reigning king is the blueberry. It is amazing that the single best food in the world for your skin is also one of the most delicious types of food in the world. Want better skin? Eat more blueberry pie! Of course, raw blueberries make a healthier snack, but why are anti oxidants so good for your skin in the first place?

As scientists attempt to piece together the puzzle, it became clear early on that anti oxidants were a huge part of the equation. As we all k now, the biggest culprit of skin damage is the sun. Around the clock, the sun emits tiny, microscopic particles known as free radicals. These troublesome little particles bust through the ozone layer and come streaming through our atmosphere looking for skin cells to destroy. Too much exposure to free radicals and seriously damage your skin over the long term, but luckily, we have nature’s all natural wrinkle treatment working for us: anti oxidants.

Anti oxidants, like the ones found in blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, plums and in coffee make our skin cells significantly less susceptible to the damage caused by free radicals and they can also help repair damaged skin cells so that no further harm comes to them. Since you are protecting your skin cells against degradation, you are also helping to prevent premature aging and even some skin conditions. When you add in proper skin care and anti wrinkle creams you are creating a barrier against the damage caused by the sun.

Along with eating a diet rich in anti oxidants, you can also help your cause by putting on sun block if you are going to be outside for more than a few minutes. This includes going out in the cold winter months. Just because you won’t be getting a tan doesn’t mean you don’t need protection from the sun’s harmful radiation.

Many people wonder how many servings per day of anti oxidant rich foods they need for optimum health. It is a good idea to have one serving per meal of some anti oxidant rich food to help maximize their effectiveness.
