Looking and feeling your best is important at any stage of life. We all want our bodies and faces to reflect how young and vital we feel, and what we put into it plays a huge role. When we think of anti aging products, we tend to think of wrinkle creams and serums, but we should be paying attention to the foods we eat. There are a variety of foods that can be easily incorporated into our everyday diets so we can reap the benefits of healthy living and wonderful skin. Here are the ABC’s of youth promoting foods:
Avocado. This fruit is good for much more than making guacamole. It is loaded with healthy monounsaturated fats that reduce “bad” cholesterol, lowers blood pressure, and prevents fluid retention. But what does it do for our skin? Avocados have high levels of vitamin E, which helps keep skin healthy and young-looking. Vitamin E is an antioxidant which fights the free radicals that cause premature wrinkles and creases.
Berries. Blue and black berries, including black currants and black grapes, have powerful antioxidant properties. Blue berries, black berries, and black raspberries have flavonoids. Researchers have identified over 4000 flavonoids which benefit the body in diverse ways, from reducing inflammation and protecting the body from allergies and viruses to keeping the skin healthy. The flavonids in black and blue berries combat the damage the free radicals can cause as we age.
Cruciferous vegetables. Super foods such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, brussel sprouts, and turnip are loaded with nutrients that help prevent illnesses such as cancer. They also contain high amounts of antioxidants and sulfur, both of which promote healthy, beautiful skin.
We can’t talk about healthy skin without mentioning one more crucial element: water. This is the most effective anti aging product available. Dehydration ages the skin and allows toxins to remain in skin cells. Wrinkles form more quickly and inhibit the growth of collagen. Skin loses elasticity and vitality, making you appear older than you are. You can receive hydration from juicy fruits, teas, broths, low fat milk, and of course, good old water.
Each of these ABC’s – and W – of good skin care are easy to add to your diet. Make sure to eat properly, and your face will thank you. Not only will you look younger and more radiant, you will feel more energetic and healthy as well. Great skin starts from within.
