General

There are so many products on the market that promise to make your skin smooth and tight. Since it is true that some are better than others, how do you know what to choose?

First, you may want to consider water-based anti wrinkle creams. Your skin can absorb them more easily. There are oil-based creams. Oil based creams will make your skin look soft but they can also trap dirt in your pores and cause acne. Who wants wrinkles and acne? Moreover, some of these kinds of creams can leave a horrible residue on your skin.

The thing to remember is some creams only float on the surface layer of skin while other penetrate down into the epidermis. The ones that penetrate the deepest layers of the skin obviously will work better at hydrating and repairing the skin. Since the body is primarily water, it seems that water-based creams work the best.

However, while water based wrinkle creams work well, they are expensive. As a result, it is essential to consider the active ingredients in a cream. Active ingredients basically deliver a pharmacological effect to the skin. The best creams will contain retinol, AHA’s, copper peptides and Q-10.There is actually a long list including filters, skin lightening agents, antioxidants, retinoid and more in most creams, and doing your homework to figure out exactly what you’re buying is essential. Moreover, understanding exactly what each ingredient is can really help quite a bit. After all, there are some creams that contain ingredients like alcohol which in fact can dry and dehydrate the skin.

Once you start using the cream regularly, it will penetrate and hydrate your skin. Keep in mind, though, that if you do have dry skin, it will take a while for the product to work. It takes time for the skin to absorb enough cream to make a difference. Then with regular application and minimal maintenance you should have softer, smoother skin. That said, when choosing an anti wrinkle cream, remember to take into account your skins type. Dry skin will suck up more cream while oily skin could break out. If you have sensitive skin stay away from perfumed and colored creams. You may need a hypo-allergenic cream for best results.

You should keep these questions in mind when deciding if a particular cream is good for your skin:

-Are the active ingredients in sufficient concentration?
-Can they maintain their stability?
-Can they penetrate the skin?
-Are they compatible with each other?
-Have there been any scientific tests done on the ingredients?
-Are there any known side effects?
-Will this product work with my skin type?

If you are concerned, look for an anti wrinkle cream that has been tested by dermatologists. This way you know it is safe and has undergone testing from doctors. It is important to know your skin and your face and know what creams will work best for you before you make a purchase, otherwise, you might end up wasting your money.
